Olivia Rodrigo and rapper Lil Uzi Vert made changes to the Billboard charts after weeks of domination by country superstar Morgan Wallen, with Rodrigo taking the top spot on the singles chart and Lil Uzi Vert at the top spot on the album.
Rodrigo’s “Vampire,” the first new single in two years by the 20-year-old singer-songwriter and actress who catapulted to music stardom in early 2021 with “Drivers License,” opened at No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart. It had nearly 36 totals. 1 million streams and 26 million “on-air audience impressions,” a measure of a song’s popularity on radio, according to data from tracking service Luminate.
Rodrigo’s arrival brings Wallen’s song “Last Night” to number two, after a total of 13 weeks at number one, and the last 10 consecutive weeks. “Vampire” is the first release from Rodrigo’s second studio album “Guts,” due in September.
On the album chart, Lil Uzi Vert scored the first No. 1 rap song of the year with “Pink Tape,” a sprawling 26-track release packed with bits of rock and metal. Sparked by Lil Uzi Vert — the 27-year-old from Philadelphia who emerged as part of the “SoundCloud rap” generation in the mid-2010s — “Pink Tape” over two years has racked up the equivalent of 167,000 sales in the US, including 210 1 million streams and 11,000 copies sold as a complete package.
Wallen’s latest album, “One Thing at a Time”, is at number two in its eighteenth week of release. He’s been No. 1 a total of 15 times, including the past three weeks. “Dangerous: The Double Album,” Wallen’s last LP, from 2021, ranked fifth.
Peso Bluma, a songwriter and performer from Mexico, ranked at number three for a second week with “Génesis”, the highest place ever for a regional Mexican music album.
Taylor Swift’s “Midnights” is at No. 4, and Swift is set to take over the chart next week with her latest re-recorded album, “Speak Now (Taylor Version),” which was released on Friday and instantly became a hit. Big hit on streaming services.
